Bathroom Remodel Reveal

When we moved into our house 4 years ago we knew we were walking into an original master bathroom from 1997. We actually had the sellers replace carpet in the master bath with tile because that was such a turn off. We told ourselves that eventually we would do a total gut at some point. About 6 months ago we pulled the trigger and I’d love to share the before and after pictures.

We designed the entire bathroom ourselves…after all…I had been picturing my dream bathroom for 4 years in preparation for this overall. We hired someone to do the work and tried to purchase as many of the materials on our own to cut costs here and there. Obviously, this was like a dream come true for me. Being able to design and decorate my very own master bathroom was something I had been waiting to do for a long time. Every decoration you will see in my pictures came from either Hobby Lobby (mirrors were 50% off) or TJ Maxx.

I knew I wanted to stick with golds, greys, and other neutral colors. The actual footprint of our bathroom was actually pretty big so we knew we had some room to play with. We also knew that we didn’t use our master tub so we were going to be gaining a ton of cabinet/counter space or a very large shower. Once our dream of a wall to wall shower was crushed because of the window placement and pipes that came from the basement we had to settle for more cabinet/counter space and a larger shower than we originally had, just not wall to wall.

Like I mentioned before…we already knew so many of the details that we “had to have”…like a step and cutout in the shower. A “rain” type shower head, a solid surface counter tops, grey-brown cabinets that soft-closed..among other things.

In the end…we couldn’t be more happy with the final product. We ended up keeping the newer tile that the sellers had put in since it was so new and we would save a significant amount of money by doing so. It was great that the new footprint actually didn’t require us to pull up the floor at all. We had to add some tiles, but were able to find some that we were so similar, you can’t even tell they didn’t come with the original tile install.

The massive addition of lighting was a must for us and I love the mix of sconces and canned lighting that we were able to install. We also really wanted to have some sort of ceiling fan because the air circulation was so bad after showers and during the summer. We were able to find a very decorative ceiling fan with a very small footprint from Home Depot. It definitely gets the job done and looks very nice. It’s pretty loud so I wouldn’t suggest purchasing it for a main room in your house, but it works for the bathroom for sure.

Take a look at the before and after pictures below and see for yourself. I will say I am completely obsessed with my very own “nail station” that we were able to create in this bathroom. Having 2 vanities has been such a great decision. Both because it allows me to keep my “getting ready” stuff separate from my nail station, but also because I can imagine Makenna being in the bathroom with me getting ready and having 2 spots for getting ready is just a good use of space in my opinion.

In one of the after pictures I show you my nail area and the drawer with all of my dip powder polishes….NO JUDGING! Now that I do not go to a nail salon anymore it just made sense to have all of my supplies right at my fingertips. And what would a nail station be without a TV? How else would I entertain myself without a nail practitioner to talk to? I have a Fire Stick hooked up to the TV and can watch anything I want on Netflix or Amazon Prime. Once we upgraded to wireless cable through Direct TV, I was also able to bring the cable box in from time to time to watch anything I have saved on DVR. It is perfect for catching up on seasons of shows that I just haven’t been able to watch like “This is Us” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Anywho…pics are below. I’m sure you will agree that the before pics completely justify the need for an upgrade. I mean…I was using an actual desk from the 90’s as my vanity people!! Who does that? I hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoy the final product! Comment below if you have any questions about the process, the materials we used, or anything else having to do with remodeling a bathroom from scratch!
