Grateful as a Mother…

I hope everyone’s Mother’s Day is better than labor was…LOL….I thought that was too funny. Even if your labor was “good” there is no way that it was pleasant. I had an epidural for both of my children and NEITHER of them took all the way. For Jackson, the medicine only affected the right side of my body. And for Makenna, it only affected the top half of my body. What are the odds, right? The 2nd time around (Makenna) I felt like everything was good to go until it was time to push and all of a sudden I realized that the “bottom half” hadn’t been affected by the epidural. And at that point…it was too late for any type of medicine. I pushed her out so fast (because I refused to wait the 10 seconds in between each push) that my tailbone ended up being dislodged. Fast forward 8 years…my tailbone ended up being broken and I had to have it cut off. Literally…she broke my tailbone and even though most women that have this happen seem to heal naturally, my tailbone never went back to it’s normal position and after 8 years of trying so many methods of treatment; chiropractor, cortisone shots, message therapy, medicine, etc…surgery ended up being my only option to stop the pain. So…after my tailbone was removed…here I am. I always joke with Kenna about how she “broke my butt” and we all laugh…but seriously…she broke my butt. But she was worth it.

I’m sure there are so many stories out there that are worse than mine, but the point is…child birth is not easy! But the children that result from the pain are worth every second of that pain. Being a mom isn’t always glamorous, or what it looks like on TV, but it’s the best gift anyone could ask for. How else could you gain a human shadow that follows you anywhere you go, believes every word you say, worships the ground you walk on, and looks to you to answer the endless amount of questions that seem to never end? And that’s just one of my children!

I’ll go ahead and admit that I totally slacked this week with my outfit inspiration. LOL. I totally forgot to take pictures of my outfits from Monday and Tuesday. Both days I had night events at school and the days just felt like they never ended. I remembered to take pics for Wed and Thurs so they’ll just have to suffice for this post. As the year comes to an end, it seems as if our schedules just seem more chaotic. Between awards banquets to host and attend, graduation, sporting events, etc, there’s always something in the evening that either Kenny or I have to attend at school. Although it’s crazy in May, it definitely makes me realize that we’re in the home stretch for the school year to be over. I start thinking about our summer vacation and all the fun we’ll be having when school is out for everyone. I’m just as guilty as the students as we “count down” to the last day of school. 🙂

The jumpsuit from NY&Co above was something I bought with trepidation. My torso is so long I never purchase rompers or one piece outfits like this. But when I bought it, it was on sale and I took a chance. I ordered a Large and was so happy! It is so flattering and the fabric is perfect. I just purchased it in Navy because I received so many compliments on how it looked. It also has pockets. And who doesn’t love pockets?? On any outfit! I highly recommend trying this piece out.

Shop Kinsley Armelle and use code “Steph15” for 15% off your order. The items they have in their “sale” section are always worth checking out. This jewelry is very high quality and comes in custom packaging that is great for any gift that you might be needing to give.

Who doesn’t love high waisted bathing suit options? I’m actually going to be totally daring this summer and try the “bikini” look, but with high waisted options. I’ve been so anti showing any type of mid section skin for so long that this is a big deal for me. Especially since I have a nasty scar from my colon surgeries and so many moles/freckles that I am so self-conscience about showing any type of skin. But what the hell? I won’t be able to show skin forever, right? So why not be confident and own your body while you can right? We’ll see how it goes after this summer. My biggest concern is honestly the amount of sunscreen I’ll need. LOL. I’m so used to only having to make sure my arms and legs are lathered…now I have to worry about my midsection and lower back?? It might take me a while to be “sun worthy” with my newfound style of skin exposure. We’ll see how it goes…

I hope everyone enjoyed their Mother’s Day weekend. I would have hoped for better weather for sure…could it be more wet and dreary? Ew. But still…hanging at home with my kiddos and husband is the best way to spend any Mother’s Day, in my opinion.

I hope all of the mothers out there are feeling loved and fulfilled today. Although it isn’t always as glamorous as it looks like on TV or social media, motherhood is definitely something that requires an unconditional love that is rewarding in so many different ways. And even though there are days when the struggle is so real, the rewarding days definitely outweigh the bad ones. Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there! Peace out…
