Spring Break Ain’t What it Used to Be…But That’s Ok.

Well folks…it’s here. Literally today….The big 4-0. I’m not exactly thrilled about it, but I guess being on spring break and enjoying a beautiful day (it snowed this day last year) instead of doing lunch duty with 300 teenagers and being trapped inside all day, is definitely a plus!

I think back to the days of “real” spring break….uh…in 1999, when a group of my college friends went to Cancun for a week. Now THAT was spring break. My life has definitely come a loooooong way since then, but it’s fun to reminisce about how fun that was. This spring break I’ve got a haircut, am taking Jackson for a haircut, took a kid to the eye dr, gutted the basement, and I’m planning on a bunch of other tasks that are similar to those listed for the rest of the week.

I think about my own kids making that trip in this day and age and I start to feel anxious. I mean…I took this trip before 9/11, before social media, before people really used the internet for practically every task imaginable, etc. I couldn’t imagine my kids getting on a plane and spending a week in Mexico without me! But I’m sure once the time comes for a trip like that I’ll feel differently, the kids are only 12 and 10 after all….right? I digress…

So I’ve never really been one that cared much about getting older. I didn’t really feel any strong feelings about leaving my 20’s, but for some reason…this one feels different. I don’t necessarily feel like I look much older than I did 10 years ago…I know for sure I don’t act much older than I did 10 years ago, but there’s just something about saying that I’m 40 that I just don’t like. But what can you do? Right? I love my house, my marriage, my kids are at an amazing age, so there’s really not much to complain about. I think maybe I’m just imagining my skin aging dramatically overnight, parts of my body beginning to sag out of nowhere, and my hair actually turning gray. I’ve actually made it all the way to 40 without ever having to color my hair and that has been such a nice luxury from what I hear from those that do.

Anyway…the week completely got away from me last week and I never posted any of my outfits. Not that anyone really counts on my posts for any source of entertainment, but remember…I committed to this thing and I’m not copping out now! I figured since this week I’ll be in leggings, jeans, and comfy shirts, there wasn’t going to be much to post wardrobe wise, so I’ll just post last week’s outfits now.

My current mani situation is below and I’ll also drop a pic of my latest jewelry addition. I didn’t plan to actually add anything to my wedding band anytime soon. I was thinking it might be for a 20 year anniversary or something, but our family friends the Jester’s are the only people we’ve ever bought jewelry off of and they recently announced they were going to be closing their store. That moved the addition to my band up a few years for sure. I wanted to make sure we purchased it from them and as an added bonus, they had everything on additional mark down….so….why not, right? Happy 40th to me!

The first couple pictures above are from the bouquet my mom had delivered to my house today and the pic on the right was made by Makenna for me as a birthday present. So stinkin sweet! She is just so adorable and thoughtful. She made sure to point out that Jackson had nothing to do with it, but did sign his name to the card as it being from both of them. LOL.

Before I hop off here to continue enjoying this beautiful day I wanted to show you the sandals I just bought from DSW. If you use the coupon code BIGMOOD you can get 20% your purchase and it ends today! I got them in cognac.
