Blog Update

Is it Fall Already?

I’m totally feeling this meme right now. Fall in Ohio…can’t figure out if it wants to be winter or tease us with Spring temps. I walk out in the morning thinking I need a jacket, but then wish I had a tank top on during afternoon carpool at work!

So…I embarrassed to say that I haven’t written a blog post since March! I looked back at my previous posts and the title of my last post had “social distancing” in it, so I know I’ve posted since the pandemic hit. It was the week after the world shut down…Friday the 13th in March. And…we never returned to school. I spent so much time on my computer all day I was never motivated to write a post. And what exactly was I going to talk about? Everything was so fresh and so many things were points of sensitivity that I didn’t even want to attempt to discuss what was going on in the world. And I felt insensitive posting about clothes or makeup because there were so many other more important things going on.

Then summer hit and it basically turned into spring 2.0. I had a week of vacation in HH with my family, but I think ended up doing master schedule work for most of June and July because the world was still a hot mess and all of the plans that I had prepared for in March/April were turned upside down. Almost every detail that was carefully planned for from January to April was thrown out the window and so many details had to be reconfigured.

We are living the new reality now and it’s actually going well at work (knocking on wood). So much has changed for everyone and I know our staff is feeling super exhausted with it all, but everyone is holding up! Jackson just finished a 2 week quarantine from school because his entire grade was quarantined. He handled it like a champ and we’re so lucky that he’s 13 and independent. Neither of us had to take off work or really adjust our lives any differently to accommodate. We just got an email/call today that Makenna has to quarantine for a week. So she’ll be learning remotely all next week. She’s not as happy about her situation as Jackson was. Half of her grade is on quarantine because of some positive cases on her team. So crazy. I feel terrible for the schools and having to deliver this message. Since I live it everyday I don’t even question the decisions. I know the health department is in the driver seat when it comes to most of the decisions so it’s really not up to school administration as to who stays home and who doesn’t. The contact tracing is up to us and that is a full time job when it’s time to go into action. The amount of leg work involved is exhausting! And until you have to actually do it, you won’t appreciate the efforts schools go to in order to get it right.

I am super hopeful that Makenna will actually get to live out her club volleyball season this year. She is back doing clinics and getting ready for tryouts next weekend. I just want her to have an actual club experience. That may have been the most disappointing cancellation for me last year. She was so excited to have tournaments and meet new friends and it all just kind of went to shit. So “hopeful” is the best word I can use right now as to how I’m feeling about it. The club has been taking many precautions and the girls seem to be acclimating well to the changes. Fingers crossed.

I’m still selling Avon and am really liking the products I’ve been experiencing. Obviously, I’m not trying to make this a full time job so I don’t feel the pressure that many people are feeling because they are relying on a sales income and with everything going on sales are down. And Avon was bought by a new company like right when I joined. So many of the people who have been selling for 30+ years are not very open to change. So many things are making them rely on social media and being tech savvy and they just don’t want to do it and their clients in their age range aren’t in that market. Kind of sad really. But it is what it is anymore. Either adjust to the changes or just sit around being bitter and everything just moves past you regardless.

We have officially closed our pool for the season and I’m actually looking at it all covered up and filled with wet leaves. This couldn’t have been a better year to have our own pool. Besides the fact that I’m hearing that lumber costs have almost more than doubled, but no one wanted to go anywhere over the summer because of covid. So having our own little pool oasis was amazing. Now I’m just waiting for the weather to stabilize. Last year on Halloween it was like 30 degrees out and super windy. Winter conditions. I’m curious how this year will be. If it could remain like it is right now it will be perfect. Not that Halloween will feel the same or anything anyway, but I know we are going to attempt to have our kids still trick-or-treat and take precautions when handing out candy. Unless the world shuts down between now and then that it. (Knocking on wood again)

If politics, covid, weather, etc. isn’t enough, there are only 10 DAYS until Christmas. When did that happen? I haven’t even started any type of planning or shopping. It just doesn’t feel appropriate yet. I’m still acclimating to the smell of pumpkin and trying to settle on fall colors for my nails because I still want to go with pink, white, and other things summery. Not sure I can wrap my head around presents and Chris Cringle just yet. Give me some time.

I’ll wrap it up here folks…we have to go pick Makenna up from volleyball. Then spend the rest of the day watching college football and enjoying this beautiful weather. Before I go…

  1. Take a look at my Avon e-store if you’d like to see what they have to offer. Super affordable skincare, makeup, decorations, etc. So much that you may not think Avon would offer. I typically put in an order a week or so. www.youravon.com/smeibers
  2. I’m hosting a Pampered Chef party online starting Oct. 23rd. If you’d like to join the group click on this Facebook group link. I ordered a few items myself last week when I was in someone else’s party. They have very nice items, some are just pricey. Take a look at the catalog if you’d like before you decide to join the group. https://www.pamperedchef.com/party/stephaniemeibers1023

Tata for now people. I’ll try to jump on again prior to waiting 7 months. haha.
